In my 20-year career, I have attended quite a few training courses. The basic management training with Thomas Wetzel definitely made it into my personal top 3.
The group was very diverse: some participants had little management experience, while others had been leading teams for up to ten years. All areas were represented, from coopers to accounting and sales to software development. How Thomas managed to master this diversity is still a mystery to me today. Despite their different backgrounds, every single participant was able to take something valuable away from each day of training.
The training consisted of four 1.5-day modules. At the beginning of each module, the participants reported on their experiences with the knowledge they had previously learned. This kept motivation high, and the content was consciously integrated into everyday work and reflected upon before the next module.
Theory blocks were then alternated with intensive role-playing exercises. It was in these role-playing exercises that Thomas really showed his skills: he slipped into a wide variety of characters with impressive ease – from the contrite, sensitive employee to the demanding, almost insolent snob. This showed us our individual areas for development in a playful but impressive way.
At the end of the last training block, I looked around the group and realized that it was no longer the same group as at the beginning. Every single person had made noticeable progress over the four months. I can wholeheartedly recommend Thomas as a coach and look forward to attending further training courses with him in the future.
